The multiple detection _was_ just a minor inconvenience. However, fixing it just happened to avoid an oops elsewhere, which always happens after an HP8100 is detected 8 times.
I'm going to be away for a while, but if someone could fix the original problem, then we wouldn't need this workaround. An alternative workaround would be to add the HP8100 to the blacklist, but fixing the real problem would be preferable.

Unfortunately, the only properly decoded oops I've seen isn't very helpful...

Michel - could you repeat the problem, and try to catch the _first_ oops of the pair. Then decode it as you did the other one, and post it to the mailing list. Someone should then be able to take a closer look, and if they don't then I'll have a look when I get back in a fortnight.
Try using a bigger video mode, if the first one was scrolling off-screen.
