Hello everyone,
While running vanilla 2.4.26 on Motion Computing M1300 Tablet, I encountered the following problem: if a key is pressed several times on USB keyboard during kernel boot, boot locks up at EHCI driver init. Boot succeeds normally if keyboard remains untouched. After investigating a problem, I found out that UHCI & EHCI is routed to the same interrupt (IRQ 11), i.e. shared. EHCI driver starts first, and enables the interrupt. Since UHCI (and it's interrupt) is enabled in BIOS, system becomes flooded with UHCI interrupts immediately after request_irq for EHCI - EHCI irq just quits every time, but UHCI driver is not yet started to ack an interrupt. I managed to work around the problem by applying Len's ACPI patch for 2.4.27 (its pci_link.c part). This way, EHCI & UHCI is not shared, and system boots normally in any case. I wonder how this problem might be addressed in general case: when some device is sharing IRQ with UHCI, and is initialized (with request_irq, etc...) before actual UHCI driver starts?
Thanks, Aleks.
Attached are boot logs before and after patch. Machine locks up at the line: ehci_hcd 00:1d.7: PCI device 8086:24cd line.
