People have kicked around ideas for persistant memory use as a disk replacement etc. with memory mapped data spaces, but until there is actual (affordable) hardware it remains just an interesting thought experiment.
If the recent news about giga-bit mram being a real possibility in the not too far future pans out, this may be get more important.
