Hello,
I just installed devfsd-1.3.9-1mdk.i586.rpm onto a fresh SuSE 6.3 system with linux-2.4.0-test2-ac2, devfs enabled, and found out, that at first, some virtual consoles are not registered. I got following in the syslog:
... Jul 2 10:06:08 notebook2 mingetty[171]: /dev/vcs6: No such file or directory Jul 2 10:06:09 notebook2 mingetty[188]: /dev/vcs4: No such file or directory Jul 2 10:06:09 notebook2 mingetty[190]: /dev/vcs2: No such file or directory Jul 2 10:06:09 notebook2 mingetty[191]: /dev/vcs3: No such file or directory Jul 2 10:06:09 notebook2 init: Id "2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Jul 2 10:06:09 notebook2 init: Id "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes Jul 2 10:06:09 notebook2 mingetty[193]: /dev/vcs4: No such file or directory ....
notebook2:/dev # dir vcc total 0 drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 . drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 .. crw------- 1 root root 7, 0 Jan 1 1970 0 crw-rw---- 1 root tty 7, 1 Jan 1 1970 1 crw------- 1 root root 7, 10 Jan 1 1970 10 crw------- 1 root root 7, 2 Jan 1 1970 2 crw------- 1 root root 7, 128 Jan 1 1970 a crw-rw---- 1 root tty 7, 129 Jan 1 1970 a1 crw------- 1 root root 7, 138 Jan 1 1970 a10 crw------- 1 root root 7, 130 Jan 1 1970 a2 notebook2:/dev #
When I switch with Alt+3 to the third console, after some time, the entry /dev/vcc/3 (and /dev/vcs3) appears, and then it works. But, because even when using devfsd as "compatibility manager", there are failures (no immediate access to other virtual consoles), I suppose that this is a bug.
Can anybody confirm or disprove this?
Xuân. :o)
