I got my new AsusA7V motherboard and AMD Thunderbird booting RedHat5.2/linux2.0.36 with no trouble. (A dusty old RH5.2 CD was all I had handy at the time) I then downloaded the 2.2.17 and 2.4.0test8 sources and built them, only to find that neither would even TRY to boot; after I see the message "OK, booting the kernel" they just sit there. I grabbed several earler kernels and it seems that anything prior to 2.1.5 wil boot while 2.2.0 doesn't - I haven't narrowed it down any further, yet.
Before I spend too many additional brain cells diagnosing this, can somebody remind me if this happens to be a well known problem? Several of my other brain cells think they've seen mention of this problem here, but a scan of the archives didn't show anything obvious.
