Ah yes, the old IPL switch... quite an advance over memorizing the octal machine code of the bootstrap loader and toggling it in on the front panel switches.
I got really fast on bringing up a PDP-8 :-)
IIRC, the 360/370 family has a complete other assembly code for programming the I/O Channel, separate from BAL-360 code.
