I wonder if things like this may have anything to do with my oops on halt problem? I see these kinds of messages:
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux/include -D__ASSEMBLY__ -DCPU=686 -traditional -c head.S -o head.o /tmp/cclusjwq.s: Assembler messages: /tmp/cclusjwq.s:855: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix /tmp/cclusjwq.s:856: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix /tmp/cclusjwq.s:857: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix /tmp/cclusjwq.s:858: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix /tmp/cclusjwq.s:1017: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix /tmp/cclusjwq.s:1018: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix /tmp/cclusjwq.s:1019: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix /tmp/cclusjwq.s:1020: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix /tmp/cclusjwq.s:1100: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix /tmp/cclusjwq.s:1101: Warning: using `%eax' instead of `%ax' due to `l' suffix
at various points during the compile as well as at the final link creating the bzImage....
I'm using either gcc-2.7.2.3 or egcs-2.91.66.
