Hallo,
NFS with 2.2.x kernels suffers from instabilities... I found the following kernel oops (from rpc.nfsd) on the server: --------------------------------------------- Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: Oops: 0000 Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: CPU: 0 Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: EIP: 0010:[find_buffer+42/68] Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: EFLAGS: 00010206 Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: eax: 10000000 ebx: 0026f18b ecx: 00000811 edx: 1 0000000 Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: esi: 00000400 edi: 00000000 ebp: 00000100 esp: c f60de34 Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018 Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: Process rpc.nfsd (pid: 233, process nr: 30, stackpage= cf60d000) Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: Stack: c0127c3d 00000811 0026f18b 00000400 c0128949 00 000811 0026f18b 00000400 Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: cf60dee0 000004d8 00000000 ce2d1320 cfa56ec0 cf 5c4c80 00000811 00000001 Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: cfa562c0 cf5c0811 00000000 cfa562c0 c014179d cf 5c4c80 cf60dedc 000004d7 Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: Call Trace: [get_hash_table+21/32] [brw_page+373/944] [ext2_bmap+217/588] [generic_readpage+127/140] [try_to_read_ahead+271/296] [do_generi c_file_read+742/1540] [generic_file_read+100/128] Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: [file_read_actor+0/80] [sys_read+210/260] [syst em_call+52/56] [startup_32+43/164] Jul 2 19:16:53 ficus7 kernel: Code: 8b 12 39 58 04 75 f3 39 70 08 75 ee 66 39 48 0c 75 e8 89 c2 ------------------------------------------- Restarting the NFS server cured the problem (so far).
System is Debian 2.1 with kernel 2.2.10-SMP (both client and server). Any further information needed?
I need stable (production) systems with numerous NFS mounts all across the cluster. This is hard with 2.2.x ! Recommendations for a kernel version to prefer? I tried 2.2.{4,9}-SMP before, with moderate success. (Someone suggested 2.2.7 recently...)
