hi all,
I am compiling the linux kernel version 2.2.10 with -g option in the CFLAGS of the toplevel makefile. I get a compilation error when compiling sched.c:
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.2.10/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -g -D__SMP__ -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=686 -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -c signal.c gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.2.10/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -g -D__SMP__ -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=686 -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -c ksyms.c gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.2.10/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -g -D__SMP__ -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=686 -fno-omit-frame-pointer -c -o sched.o sched.c sched.c: In function `schedule': sched.c:867: fixed or forbidden register 7 (sp) was spilled for class GENERAL_REGS. This may be due to a compiler bug or to impossible asm statements or clauses. cpp: output pipe has been closed make[2]: *** [sched.o] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.10/kernel' make[1]: *** [first_rule] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.10/kernel' make: *** [_dir_kernel] Error 2
uname -a Linux linpqs 2.2.10 #4 SMP Fri Jul 9 19:16:11 IST 1999 i586 unknown
gcc -v Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/egcs-2.91.66/specs gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)
Is this a known bug? or is there something wrong with my compiler?
Actually, I was recompiling the kernel for supporting debugging thru kdebug ver 1.1. Is this the latest?
Thanks and regards, Raju
