Sorry, my patch is 2.1 for libc5 and it's the first time I get this error.

gallir@star:/home/people/gallir > patch -v
Patch version 2.1

and it isn't so prehistoric :-).

It came with SuSE 5.2
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 130972 May 19 1998 /usr/bin/patch
