Dunno if this is a classical case of user error or not, but here is the bug report:
1. IDE-SCSI causes anything that accesses it to go into the "D" state in ps
2. I recently purchased an IDE CD-R from a buddy of mine and am attempting to use it under linux. I have attempted to follow all the directions in the CD-Writing-HOWTO file to enable a IDE CD-R.
3. modules, ide-scsi, ide cd-r
4. Linux version 2.2.1 (root@borg) (gcc version 2.7.2.3) #3 SMP Sun Feb 7 14:34:02 EST 1999

X. The firmware has been updated to the most current version, and is fully functional under windows using Adaptec Easy CD Creator for both audio and data CDs. So the CD-R is functional in the system.
Also the kernel seems to go into a loop. The load goes to 1, and there are no processes that are taking up any more than 3-5% (top).
TIA, Mark
