I dunno. Here, i use automatic module loading... the vj compression works when i need it (when my ISP use it) and now i'm using ppp_deflate (in communications just between 2.2 linux'es), and both modules works fine. The kernels are 2.0.36 and 2.2.0, all modularized, pppd 2.3.5, net-tools 1.50, all compiled with gcc-2.8.1, libc-5.4.43.
