I've run into a snag when trying to compile the 2.2.2 kernel. This is a compile time error when the script tries to compile loopback.c and sock.h.
Downloaded the 2.2.2 kernel and also tried to patch a 2.2.1 kernel, still get the same compilation errors with both types. By the way, 2.2.0 and 2.2.1 both compiled fine on my machine, without any problems, so this is new to me as of 2.2.2.
Checked my versions against the Documentation/Changes file, and I'm pretty well up to day. I'm using GLIBC 2.0.7 instead of 2.0.7pre6, which is the only significant difference I've seen. But again, I was able to compile 2.2.1 and 2.2.0 without a problem.
This is the first time in 2 years I've EVER had a compile time problem with a Linux Kernel. I'm fairly competent in doing Kernel compilations, so if the problem is mine, please just point me in the right direction.
Here's my ver_linux script: [root@physics linux]# sh scripts/ver_linux -- Versions installed: (if some fields are empty or looks -- unusual then possibly you have very old versions) Linux physics.byu.edu 2.2.1 #8 SMP Tue Feb 9 11:20:29 MST 1999 i686 unknown Kernel modules 2.1.121 Gnu C 2.7.2.3 Binutils 2.9.1.0.4 Linux C Library 2.0.7 Dynamic linker ldd (GNU libc) 2.0.7 Linux C++ Library 2.8.0 Procps 1.2.7 Mount 2.7l Net-tools (1998-12-05) Kbd 0.94 Sh-utils 1.16
I'm using RedHat 5.1, but I've upgraded several binaries.
Here's the actual error from the compilation: ============================================= make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux/drivers/net' gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-f rame-pointer -D__SMP__ -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign- jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=686 -c -o loopback.o loopback.c /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h: In function `sk_filter': In file included from loopback.c:51: /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h:796: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h:796: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h:796: warning: passing arg 1 of `sk_run_filter' from incompatible pointer type /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h:796: too few arguments to function `sk_run_fil ter' /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h: In function `sk_filter_release': /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h:807: warning: implicit declaration of function `sk_filter_len' /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h:811: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h: In function `sk_filter_charge': /usr/src/linux/include/net/sock.h:817: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type make[3]: *** [loopback.o] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux/drivers/net' make[2]: *** [first_rule] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux/drivers/net' make[1]: *** [_subdir_net] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux/drivers' make: *** [_dir_drivers] Error 2 =========================================================
Much Thanks, and appologies for any moronicism.
