Am I the only one seing this? For an iso9660 mounted filesystem through the loop device (on top of ext2fs)
find /mnt/loop -type f -exec cat {} > /dev/null \;
gives:
procs memory swap io system cpu r b w swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id .. 1 0 0 13696 1272 8492 22448 0 0 1753 0 1277 2349 0 17 83 1 0 0 13696 1120 8480 22616 0 0 1751 0 1278 2346 1 21 78 1 0 0 13696 1120 8480 22616 0 0 1728 0 1260 2330 2 17 81 ..
The same command after the files have been copied to an ext2fs partition on the same physical disk gives:
procs memory swap io system cpu r b w swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id .. 1 0 0 13668 556 1316 30500 0 0 5617 0 273 200 2 25 74 1 0 0 13668 584 1316 30476 0 0 5734 0 275 215 3 22 75 1 0 0 13668 632 1312 30440 0 0 5716 0 265 202 1 29 70 ..
I understand it isn't fair to compare iso9660/loop/ext2fs to ext2fs but > 3 times slower? I have re-run the test for both cases 3 times (for the whole 650 MB). What is going on here? Any takers?
One more thing. I can make my box totally unresponsive by running a cp -r from/to UDMA to/from UW-SCSI. A totally new phenomen to me. Am I alone with this one too?
TIA.
