This resulted<BR> in gcc compiling the same things at the same time on both<BR> consoles. I suppose this has "contributed" to the crash...;<BR> - Loaded a configuration file on each console. The files were<BR> different. I wanted to compare them manually for some reason;<BR> - Switched between tty1 and tty2 many times and entered/exited the<BR> submenus to see the differences between the two configurations;<BR> - When I reached the "Sound" submenu (which is towrds the end) I<BR> tried to enter it (on tty1) and then the error occured. On tty2<BR> everything went on OK. I exited and wrote down the error message.<BR> <BR>Apparently that bug is not a permanent one, because I had done such a<BR>"manual file compare" before and I did it again later, but the crash<BR>happened only once.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>...btw on that special occasion I also noticed another strange effect<BR>but didn't pay attention to it until later (until now):<BR>Sometimes (rarely), just after I had entered a submenu on one of the<BR>consoles, I had to press "Enter" TWICE on the other console to enter<BR>the same menu because the first "Enter" just refreshed the screen...</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>---------------------------------------------<BR>Now follow the configurations which I loaded.<BR>The commented (#) <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2><BR>I have three boring questions. Although I know you are not<BR>the ones who must answer them I feel a desire to ask:</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>1. The kernel compiled with the first configuration seems not<BR> to see the COM ports. My mouse is gone and I want it back.<BR> That's why I began comparing the two configurations (and met<BR> the bug) but didn't find any differences concerning serial<BR> ports. What should(not) I compile into the kernel to fix that?</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>2. The kernel compiled with the second configuration says on shutdown:<BR> "shutting down at daemon<BR> Empty pid file /var/run/atd.pid for /usr/sbin/atd failed".<BR> Is this a matter to worry about? If it is - should I disable the at<BR> daemon? If not - how to get rif of the "failed" error.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>3. Kernels compiled with both configurations say that they cannot<BR> mount devpts (at boot time) because some module cannot be found.<BR> I removed the corresponding line in fstab and "solved" the problem.<BR> Have I done wrong? If yes - what (the hell) should I compile into<BR> the kernel to really solve the problem.<BR> <BR>I've confessed my sins. I feel better now :)</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Hope I didn't waste your time.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Bye!</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>P.S. I've sent the same mail to <<A href="mailto:mec@shout.net">mec@shout.net</A>> too.<BR></FONT></DIV></BODY></HTML>
