My input on this very exhausted subject would be that bzip should merely add support for gzip compression, which is fully available under the GNU... then it could replace gzip and use a symlink gzip --> bunzip2 etc... it should be able to do all that gzip can do also then tar xfz foo.tar.bz2 would work just fine... for those that like short commands and don't have the version of tar that supports tar xfI foo.tar.bz2
I know.... this isn't really kernel related... but everybody else seems to have sent a message on this so I thought I should give my input =]
and yes... I will also email this to the bzip2 developers (if I can find the email address)
and no killing me for continuing this chain is NOT repeat NOT allowed =]
