Hello kernel people,
I put this report here because I think that more kernel-developers are involved here.
[1.] One line summary of the problem:
Illegal IDE probing
[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
I got some problems with a IDE controller since I have installed the 2.2.0pre4 kernel on a 2 your old Pentium 200 system.
First thing I encountered was the problem with recognise the second IDE controller. I solved the problem with adding "ide1=0x170,0x376,15" (standard values) as kernel parameter. The kernel recognise the second controller without any problem after it. I think this is not a proper solution and might be a kernel problem.
A second problem appeared when I looked very well what appeared on the screen, while booting the kernel. The 1,6Gb harddisk shows the illegal size 7680Mb instead of 1536Mb (this values appeared while booting a 2.0.x kernel).
These things never appeared using the 2.0.x series.
The linux I use is originally based on Slackware 3.4 with some upgrades to run the 2.2.x kernels.
(Add: I notice now that the cache value reported with the CDROM driver is very abnormal large, see section 7.5)
