Hi folks, I've sent this problem in previously going back to 2.1.89 and have simply lived without development kernels hoping it would get fixed before 2.2.0. Well, I'm still getting the problem with 2.2.0Pre2, yet I *DON'T* have this problem with any 2.0.x kernel I've used.
OS: RedHat 5.2, Hardware:
Dual PPRO Tyan 1662D MB Symbios Logic NCR 53C8XX (with the BSD driver, NOT the NCR53c7,8xx driver) Mad 16 based audio (OSS Driver) Ether Express 16
The symptoms are as follows: within minutes of booting once I start making standard network connections within a short time all network activity fails even though ifconfig reports eth0 up; I cannot ping to anything but my own host. If I drop the interface the system completely *FREEZES* for about 30 seconds (including disk I/O and serial port polling - no mouse activity) and then comes back to life. If I ifconfig eth0 up the interface again I have networking... until it gets confused again in a few minutes. Here's some interesting output:
[root@marquez /maynard]# /sbin/ifconfig lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3924 Metric:1 RX packets:24 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:24 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0

OK, now check the tail end of this dmesg output:

I don't think I'm doing anything stupid but if so will someone clue me in? Let me know if I can do anything else of assistance.
Cheers, J. Maynard Gelinas
