There is nothing you can do but use 1500 MTU or ignore these sites. Basically they are run by people with no clue about basic internet technology and the error is in the path mtu stuff their end.
As I've said before Win98 on a 14.4 modem goes for a 576 mtu too so all of these people should go bankrupt as they deserve.

Take it up with the site owners, ask them why they are running path mtu discovery and blocking all incoming icmp. Suggest they dial in with <1500 mtu and actually -test- their stuff.
