There is one particular aspect of ggi that has always struck me as making sense: putting video mode switching into kernel space.
Hypothetically, for the moment, what would it take implement this pearl? I can think of three things:
(1) putting that part of the kggi interface into a development kernel. (2) patch X to support this ioctl (3) patch svga to support this ioctl
Ultimately, I'd like to be able to take any running graphics program, hit it with kill -9 and not lose my console.
