Hi all,
It seem that there is some sort of cache for the floppy device that is preventing the ability to load an application from multiple diskettes. The system is running RH5.0 2.0.32 w/most updates applied. RH4.2 2.0.29 does_not_ have the problem.
The symptom: I have two 1.44 in cpio format. DISK1 contains: file1 file2 file3 DISK2 contains: file4 file5 file6 when I use 'cpio -icvBmud </dev/fd0' w/DISK1 in the drive the content of DISK1 is extracted. If I put DISK2 in the drive and issue the same command the content of DISK1 is extracted. If I take DISK2 out and issue the command w/NO disk in the drive the content of DISK1 is extracted. If I put DISK2 back in and use device /dev/fd0H1440 (cpio -icvBmud </dev/fd0H1440) the content of DISK2 is extracted. The only way I was able to read the content of the current diskette and not the content of previous diskette was to constently alternate between the devices.
Is there something such as a kernel parameter that will disable the floppy cache?
TIA Kevin
