Subjectpci unknown device

Well hello folks: I am having trouble figuring out what to do with a
new modem I purchased but isn't recognized. When I do a lspci I get
the response:

00:08.0 serial controller: Rockwell international: unknown device

Is there anything I can do to convince this thing to behave as a
standard modem? On the other hand, I don't really know a lot about
pci, is there a driver I could poke at to try to modify to control
this modem? I've looked at the pci.howto but it seems very old and of
little benefit in getting this to work.

Any information someone could provide me would be really appreciated!
