SubjectTelnet & ^C

Hi,

Does anyone know why pressing CTRL-C while telnetting to a linux machine
(2.1.42) via a telnet proxy causes the connection to halt? I can connect
find and use ctrl-c on a solaris machine outside the firewall just fine.
I tried duplicating the stty settings, but that did nothing.
Interestingly, if I keep pressing ^C, I see 'y' characters with umlauts
over them. I don't think it's the telnet daemon, since I tried this on
another linux machine (2.0.27) and ^C worked OK, so I copied that person's
telnetd and installed it on my chaine, but still no dice. I'm thinkin'
maybe it's a kernel issue.
