Hi,
we just tried the following:
kernel pre-2.0.31-2 + Werner's latest buffer cache patch + Leonard's SMP deadlock patch (one rejected hunk has to be applied by hand).
Creating a 800MB Filesystem with 4MB RAM works absolute reliably on a dual PPro. This was impossible with 2.0.29, 30, and 30 with various patches.
After that we stress tested the kernel: Two concurrent "make -j" and two rc5 Clients were running for about two hours. We didn't use a swap partition but a 64M swap file. The system did not show any problems at all. The two makes did complete sucessfully.
Time for a pre-2.0.31-3? David?
