SubjectRe: AMD K6
i've exchanged mail with somebody who posted a similar problem
to the newsgroups. they got it working by replacing their
Biostar motherboard with a SP-P5VD. (i don't know exactly what
brand that is, sorry).

from what I can gather, it's not the chip, but that a number of
motherboards aren't stable with it. however, considering that
at least one person (lindsay computer systems, www.jumpnet.com/~lcs/)
seems to be selling linux boxes based on the tx-97 and the K6, it does work.

note that it only works with certain (recent) revisions of the TX-97,
at least according to the Asus web site.
