SubjectRe: Watch for new versions.
I'm not going to continue this thread. It is impossible for everyone to
have started their daemon at the same time. Therefore, the hits are
spread out. Further I am quite familiar with finger servers, we have
hundreds (literly) of them.

I could modify the tool to make an inquiry on a special port on one
of my machines, but I don't have information about when a new version
is available to test. If I had that information, I would have taken
the "hits". Presently, the only system that has that information is
ftp.kernel.org.

Now, if ftp.kernel.org were to send one of my machines email when a
new development kernel is available, I would be happy to provide the
tool and the machine to take the "hits". The network traffic, and the
CPU time used, is in the noise.
