If I say "dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/null bs=1k count=102400", a 2.0.30 kernel locks up almost every time. The disk light is lit continuously and there is no response to the keyboard. This is on a machine with 16MB of RAM. There are no mounted filesystems on the disk.
I have tried adding some printks to see if I could discover anything, but every time I add something to the kernel, the initial memory configuration changes and these new kernels will not fail.
If someone ahs any ideas, I'm willing to try them.
Thanks
John
