SubjectLinux 2.0.27 (RedHat 4.1) crashes on AMD K6-PR166
Date
Dear AMD:

I have recently purchased an AMD K6-PR166 with the intent of running
Linux, specifically RedHat Linux 4.1 (kernel 2.0.27.) However, it
crashes during the boot process with a general protection fault in the
swapper, and from reading the linux-kernel@vger.rutgers.edu it appears
a number of people have been having the same problem with the K6.

My motherboard is an ASUS TX97-E jumpered according to the indications
in the manual for the AMD K6-PR166.

I would appreciate any information you can provide that could assist
in resolving the problem, including information of any K6 errata that
could be used to implement a workaround.

Sincerely,

H. Peter Anvin
