I have noticed Linux mounts physically read-only removable IDE disk (in my case it's Syquest EZ135A) as read-write. Because it is removable drive and disks change often it is annoying problem. I know it can be mounted as read-only, but wonder if kernel should auto detect if disk is writable or not. I do not know but I guess this same problem would be faced while using IDE hard disk as write protected.
