SubjectLinux 1.99.5 module-unloading: Trigger-happy!
Date
I just put 1.99.5 (a.k.a. pre-2.0#5) on my system. Shortly after
booting, I noticed that a couple of modules I load at boot-time
with insmod had unloaded.

It seems that kerneld will automatically unload *any* module that
hasn't been used, whether it was loaded by kerneld or not. E.g.

- /sbin/modprobe lp
- do nothing for 60 seconds (or whatever your kerneld timeout is)
- /sbin/lsmod reports that the module is gone

Is this intentional ? I usually load the special dosemu modules at
boot-time, but now it seems that I will have to do it just before
running dosemu ...

Using modules-1.3.69i, in case it matters.
