SubjectRe: still problems with kernel PLL in Linux 1.3.83 (long)
Ulrich,

As far as I know, Linux has not upgraded the kernel to the current
spec. The interface is not compatible with the current xntpd. Your
xntpdc display is clearly broken, but I can't help you unless the
kernel implementation is compatible with the current xntpd. Please
confirm that the xntpdc display is something like

xntpdc> host rackety
current host set to rackety.udel.edu
xntpdc> kerninfo
pll offset: 2 us
pll frequency: -24.710 ppm
maximum error: 23568 us
estimated error: 16 us
status: 0107
pll time constant: 2
precision: 1 us
frequency tolerance: 512 ppm
pps frequency: -24.135 ppm
pps stability: 0.007 ppm
pps jitter: 4 us
calibration interval: 256 s
calibration cycles: 2004
jitter exceeded: 20
stability exceeded: 4
calibration errors: 4

This machine happens to be synchronized to a GPS receiver with PPS support,
but the display for non-PPS configurations looks the same, although the
last several lines normally read as zeros. The "new" interface has been
standard for almost two years.

Dave
