Subject1.3.70 ppp = slow
Dudes and/or Dudettes:

Recently, i climbed out of my nice warm 1.2.13 into the mean streets
of 1.3.70. (Gotta have those vanity hostnames).
I grabbed the requisites:
procps-0.99a
ppp-2.20e
ncurses-1.9.8a

My problem is: the ppp (dialin) is verry slow. I can type "ls -l" with
one finger before any characters are echoed.
The resulting output comes through in distinct chunks with 1-2 second lag
gaps between said chunks. Netscape has this dramatic pause before
"contacting espnet..com"

If i sit at the console, or telnet in through the etherport, all is well
(so far).

Is there a magic "restore my zippy ppp" incantation?
TIA
