SubjectConfusing kernel error message
Dear All,

Due to an office reorganisation I've just had to move my linux box about
3 yards, but in the process have managed to do it some serious damage.
I'm on the same subnet and everything, and NT runs fine. But, when I
boot up under linux I get the folowing message (thousands of times).

Warning: dev(04:c1) tty->count(2) != fd's(4) in ttyopen
Warning: dev(04:c1) tty->count(2) != fd's(4) in release_dev

... and the 2 is sometimes 3 and the 4 can be 6.

I guess something has got corrupted though I did a shutdown before I
moved the machine, and have "cleaned" the disk. I can of course boot up
with root/boot disks and mount the linux drive but booting from lilo or
zdisks gives me the above error.

Any help would be seriously appreciated and would shorten my exile to
the world of NT (yuk!).

Michael
