Hello,
Recently our school Linux server crashed with "attempt to queue a bogon" flooding the screen. It was running on kernel version 1.3.68 (I have since then installed version 1.3.79). I believe that it had an uptime of about 5 days or so. The machine was not under heavy usgae at the time of the crash because it is Spring Break for our students. However, the machine mainly serves as a POP/Mail, Proxy, RADIUS, and Bootp server. The Network card installed is the PCI 3COM 3c590 "Vortex" (The driver was not compiled as a module). This is the first time this has ever happened (Actually, it is the first time that this machine has crashed). In configuring the 1.3.79 kernel, I compiled the "Watchdog" driver into it. Will this help (Software only)? What might caused this crash? And what is a "bogon"?
Thank you very much, Giles Francis Hall
