hi,
this happened with 1.3.74:
I was using 192.168.0.0 on eth0, and 10.0.0.0 on eth0:1. a different host (10.0.0.254) on the 10-subnet could not telnet to my host (10.0.0.253) unless I did "ping -c 1 10.0.0.254". (I just put it in rc.inet1). maybe an arp-problem in conjunction with ip-alias ? after the *one* ping , every other network-funtionality was okay. I configued the machine as router/firewall/masquerading/aliasing.
greetings, herp herp@wildsau.idv.uni-linz.ac.at
