Subjectwhat is files-nr?
Date
From

Is the proc(5) man page going to be updated soon?...

Through glimpsing, I managed to find our file-nr is a mapping
to nr_files.

nr_files seems to be an upper bound (?) ...is there an active
count of the number of slots we use in this table?

nvi had major problems on two machiens running 1.3.77 (I'm using
nvi 1.58). Both indicated we had /proc/sys/kernel/files-nr == 255
(after a reboot it's 170 -- and seems to stay there for a long time...).

I'm not sure exactly what it means...

But I think we should use the proc file system to report "interesting
things" (it would be relatively easy to calculate how many slots are
free...)...
