Well, I'm on a 14.4 slip link that routes from GE through the US to FI so no speed demon here. But getting the latest and greatest patches takes from less than one minute to ten minutes, which is a small price to pay considering the added workload of the maintainers if the kernel tree is to be split.
I only downloaded one full tree in all of the 1.3 series, which is running about a year now.
There are IMHO a lot more worthwhile things to work on than the growth of the kernel source tree.>doesn't strike me as a huge problem; we already have to go to different >places to get "optional" stuff like ppp-2.2, modules-1.3.57, etc. and we >already have to mail our bugs/patches to someone else. the main source >tree may be maintained by just one person, but there's far more than that >working on the code inside it. > >at the very least, can we at least make it so i can take all the extra >files out? whenever i remove even one subdir, make breaks heinously, and >i'm not enough of a make wizard to figure out the files (and even if i >were, i don't want to have to change them with every patch/new kernel >that comes out). > >shag > >Judd Bourgeois shagboy@thecia.net > Finger for PGP public key >There's a lost man with a bitter soul >For only a moment did life make him whole >And while he was, he thought he was invincible... > Matthew Sweet, "Smog Moon" > >
