Hm. I've never had this problem before, and I haven't seriously fooled with my machine recently except compiling & installing new kernels, so I believe this to be a kernel problem.
Problem: In the last 2 days, I've had twice the ext2fs message telling me to "reboot now" and run e2fsck manually (oh and btw when that login times out, the machine continues booting normally: strange isn't it?). When I run e2fsck, the problem is always with the same file, /tmp/diald-fifo.
Setup: kernel 1.3.72, modules enabled but everything built into the kernel :), diald v0.11 (I think), CMD640B interface with a 520Mb hd which contains the 111Mb ext2fs root partition, Pentium-75-overclocked-to-100, Sis (?) chipset. The machine has never had any significant problems with any kernel before (I think the ones installed before that were .66, .57, .4something, .3something, 1.2.13, 1.2.3 (original slackware setup)).
