Subjectethernet drivers

Hi,

I am trying to set up my Linux box on a network. I recompiled the kernel
saying "yes" to network question and to several ethernet options (in 'make
config'). When I reboot the system and was expecting to see some new
drivers in /dev (like eth0, or eth1) but nothing like that there. Shouldn't
my ethernet (SMC) drivers be there?

Thanks in advance.

-Dave
