Ditto on the module problems :-(. I even went so far as to rebuild the modules-2.1.8 package after installing the 2.1.11 kernel patch, then "make mrproper ; make config ; make clean ; make ; (etc.)" No good...
My boot time messages look like this:
Updating module dependencies for Linux 2.1.11: Starting kerneld, version 2.1.8 (pid 31) Starting PCMCIA services:init_module: Invalid request descriptor register_ss_entry: wrong version or undefined unregister_ss_entry: wrong version or undefined CardServices: wrong version or undefined (etc.)
The /etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia script which echos the "Starting PCMCIA services" message is doing the following (not exactly, but close enough):
insmod pcmcia_core.o insmod i82365.o insmod ds.o cardmgr
