Except back then, the userspace web servers were created by the competition and there was a strong incentive to beat tux.
But today, kdbus is written by the same folks that write dbus, and there's no other competition. There's no incentive to fix dbus once kdbus is merged, and in fact, it gives incentive to just drop it completely.
