SubjectTo torpedo Debian and leave RHEL as the only stable option.

Debian backports security patches (etc) to its stable distribution, which can be used for years and years.
RHEL does too, but this costs subscription money.
If debian becomes unstable (via systemd etc) and ever more subject to churn, that's some competition out of the way.

Future: if you want stability RHEL is the only option, because debian has been
subverted and is being torpedoed.

If you want something without churn you'll only have redhat to turn to.
That's one reason why this is being done.
(Most establishments like stability, why go with RHEL when Debian is free)
