Reading the patch, it looks very much like a typical semi-mt device to
me. Any good reason not to handle it that way?

Please skip. Most, if not all, semi-mt devices report the corners
(min(x1, x2), min(y1, y2)) and (max(x1, x2), max(y1, y2)). IIRC, and
if your device is really helped by it, you can also provide the two
coordinates as reported by the device. From this patch, it seems you
manually track the fingers, which is then better done using
input_mt_assign_slots().
