X86_VM_MASK was already changed in one place in kernel/traps_32.c: arch/x86/kernel/traps_32.c:502: if (regs->flags & X86_VM_MASK) { and in mm/fault.c: if (regs->flags & (X86_EFLAGS_IF | X86_VM_MASK))
