Still happens for me with the latest tree from git.

$ make ARCH=i386 arch/x86/
HOSTCC scripts/kconfig/conf.o
HOSTLD scripts/kconfig/conf
scripts/kconfig/conf -s arch/x86/Kconfig

CHK include/linux/utsrelease.h
