Well... it'd be a long thread to discuss what constitutes a "standard" Linux box, let alone what "emergency situation" should mean.
As a matter of fact, more and more people are using a Knoppix CD as an emergency recovery boot disk, not only for repairing Linux boxes, but also for repairing Windows boxes.
