I can confirm that. My 2.6.0-test10 kernel was hanging between the IDE and SCSI probes:
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14 ide2: I/O resource 0x3EE-0x3EE not free. ide2: ports already in use, skipping probe hda: max request size: 128KiB hda: 25429824 sectors (13020 MB) w/418KiB Cache, CHS=25228/16/63, UDMA(33) hda: hda1 hda2 hda3 hda4 hdb: ATAPI 40X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache, UDMA(33) Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.12 PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:14.0 (0000 -> 0003) *** hang *** scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.35 <Adaptec aic7890/91 Ultra2 SCSI adapter> aic7890/91: Ultra2 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/253 SCBs
The patch fixes the hang, but causes another problem:

The following patch seems to fix this second problem:
