Add the following to /etc/conf.modules or /etc/modules.conf, as
appropriate:

alias char-major-108 ppp_generic #For 2.3/2.4 ppp code

For 2.2 and below, I believe

alias char-major-108 ppp #For 2.2 ppp code

is correct.
