...and here's my answer:

[jbglaw@air:/proc] $> cat interrupts | grep -i rtc
8: 415163 RTC +timer

rtc.o loads again and hwclock doesn't fail;) Good work, Andrea! ...and I
wrote Andries Brouwer (hwclock's maintainer) to help searching for
remaining problems with direct mem access to the RTC chip. Will do that
after being back from work...
