I am not sure,

rather that different people want a "Registry", some for persistency, some
for NIC MIB, some for other config data.

It could be very reasonable to have unified approach to it.

like that there are data structures and API in kernel level and different
stubs for taking those data out by ioctl, proc/sys, khttpd.
